4 month update

We had Jared’s 4 month check up and immunisations today. He was in such a good mood that I felt so bad to subject him to a needle in each thigh. The GP was amazed at how happy he was to be undressed to be measured and weighed – he loves being changed and laughs when I take his arms out of his sleeves as it tickles him. He’s a merry ol soul!

So, at 4 months and 1 week, Jared weighs 8.43kg and is 68cm long/tall. He’s on the higher end of the charts, which is great but is also why I have to go back to the chiropractor to get my back adjusted because of all the times I’ve done my back while carrying him.

Another thing I learned today was about the shift in the introduction of solids. Back when I had Jacob, we were told that anytime between 4 and 6 months was fine and to just introduce slowly such as give one food for a few days before trying another food, and to hold back on introducing “high-risk” food that cause allergies such as eggs, dairy, peanuts, etc. But now, it’s pretty much start at 4 months on the dot and introduce a number of things one after the other including things like eggs and nuts, as this actually helps in the scheme of reducing the likelihood of allergies.

Hence Jared has been upgraded to the status of “high chair”. He loved sitting in it but I put in a pillow to prop him as he’s still a bit wobbly. We tried some mashed banana with a bit of BM today – he mainly licked it as he still has the tongue thrust reflex, but I reckon he liked the taste nevertheless. I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it soon!

I may be biased, but Jared is such a delight. He is just happy most of the time unless there is a reason to be unhappy, such as a dirty nappy or his brother sitting on him. I am looking forward to many more of his milestones – some of the main ones we’ve seen of late are being able to roll from front to back (but not the other way round), sitting up for short periods of time, gooing and gaaing, and just most of the other things babies do at his age.

Also, on a closing note, one thing I love about winter is all the rain. Growing up in the tropics, rain never bothered me, and my body is finally acclimatizing to the cold. Rain equals muddy puddles! We went puddle jumping the other day and found the biggest puddle ever (which he eventually fell into, ugh!).

Have a nice week everyone!

Oh no, not more baby photos!

So, I’m nearly halfway through this blog challenge and today was an easy one – a photo post! Only I have to make it complicated for myself, right?

I thought that this would be an amazing opportunity to show you more pics of my kids! I do my best not to compare my kids, but one thing I love to compare is what they looked like at different stages of their life. Hence I’ve put together a few pics of what Jacob and Jared looked like at the same age. (Jacob’s always on the left, Jared on the right)

At birth01 At Birth

At 1 week old02 At 1 week

At 3 weeks old03 At 3 weeks

At 6 weeks old04 At 6 weeks

At 9 weeks old05 At 9 weeks

At about 11 and a half weeks (which is what Jared is today)06 At 11+ Weeks

From all these pictures, I’ve come to the conclusion that Jacob has a HUGE nose!!! Okay it’s not huge but like lately I look at him and think his nose is huge! Maybe because Jared’s nose is small?

Anyway I hope you’ve enjoyed these pics of my darling boys. xoxo

10 months old!

Was it really 10 months ago that my little boy was a fresh new face into this world? I can’t even fathom how much our lives have changed in that time, but it’s been a wonderful time!

Here is my 10 month old cherub, thinking “Mum, why would you make me wear this hat?”

Image

He’s not walking yet, which is a relief, though he does like to scale areas like the playpen or the sides of the sofa. He is an avid crawler though, and gets around very quickly (and follows me around the house like a pet! Awww…)

ImageHe’s covered with yoghurt in the above pic, which is supposedly one of his favourite foods except he doesn’t take anything from a spoon now. He loved having food pouches squirted into his mouth, but mostly he loves handling his own food, as messy as it can be. Favourites are (in stick form) carrots, broccoli and asparagus as well as apples, bananas and strawberries. He’s also at the “dropping” stage where everything he eats goes on the floor at least once. Sigh. At least it builds immunity?

ImageSleep-wise, he’s not too bad lately. We had a few issues when he was growing teeth (his fifth and six ones are already on the way!), but we have also had a few nights where he’s slept through (which is BLISS).

ImageHe loves the outdoors – being pushed in the pram in the reserve, playing on grass, watching dogs play, etc. It is getting a little cold and rainy now that it’s winter, but we still get a chance to have a play outside once in a while.

ImageHe’s still a sociable baby and loves meeting other people at the social things we do each week, like church, charity work and meeting up with friends/family.

ImageI can’t deny that I am SO proud of my little boy and what he’s become (even if he is a bit of a rascal at times). I look forward to many more days, months and years full of joy and fun with our little family! ❤

On a final note, I’m feeling generous so I’m running an EOFY sale with 20% off ALL wall stickers. Get the promo code on our Facebook page and thanks in advance! Have a great week everyone!

9 months new!

Please take note, I am starting this at 8.00am on Monday morning. I must admit that I have been posting less of late, and there is a reason for this. Since Jacob’s been more mobile, he has been a bit more of a menace and has been taking up a bit more of my attention.

Some of the reasons why it takes me longer to write blog posts:
1. Jacob LOVES the computer. Every time I use it, he wants to use it. Even if I try to avoid him or distract him, he’ll be back and will bang on my keyboard. Quite often I just give in and put it away. So I usually only blog when he’s sleeping (or if he’s heavily distracted).
2. Jacob doesn’t sleep much in the day anymore. Our usual routine is 45 mins in the morning and 45 minutes in the afternoon (though it has been fluctuating lately due to his teething). The rest of the time is usually spent entertaining him.
3. Because he doesn’t sleep much, housework piles up so I use his sleeping time to do housework.

I think it’s just a vicious cycle, but I can’t complain because I do love spending time with him. Sometimes I give him a bit of TV time (like now) for a bit of a break for myself. I’ve borrowed some German kids DVDs from the library and I believe both of us are learning here!

Anyway, it’s 2 days early but I thought I’d better write this before I lose track of time. In 2 days time, Jacob will be 9 months old!! I’ve said this so many times, but I’m still shocked at how time has flown by and how much he has grown and developed. We are beginning to see more and more of his personality, and it’s really exciting.

Height: Haven’t checked lately but I know he’s grown as he’s outgrown some outfits. He’s somewhere between a size 0 and size 1.

Weight: Based on my digital scale, 8.6kg. He used to be 75th percentile but now his weight is around the 25th percentile. Average weight for his age is supposed to be 8.9kg. It’s probably due to the fact that he’s not just mobile, he’s a crazy crawler and climber. He burns off a lot of calories! But as long as he’s healthy, I’m happy.

Image

Milestones: Not walking yet (thank goodness!) but he’s close. He crawls relatively quickly (almost as fast as I walk) so it’s no use now when I put him down somewhere and run to do something else, because he just follows me. He loves opening and closing drawers, pulling himself up onto things (to potentially climb) and playing the piano (He can reach the keys if he tippy-toes).

Sleep: Still not sleeping through – I fear for my sanity at times. It’s only particularly bad if he sleeps too late (hence is overtired) and when he’s teething. His top teeth have descended and slightly cut through but there’s still some growing to do, I reckon.

Image

Favourite foods: Yoghurt (with ANYTHING in it – he once put his omelette in it and ate it.), Weetbix and fruit for breakfast, eggs, carrot sticks (or anything in the form of a stick really), pumpkin, bananas, teething rusks. He’s quite a good eater now though he is still fiercely independent at times.

Favourite books: The Bad-Tempered Ladybird (I borrowed it from the library – Jacob laughs every time I say “Hey you, want to fight?”), All Monkeys Love Bananas (especially the part where they go “Bleh! Yuck!!”), Any book mum is reading (because he’ll want to bite it).

Image

Favourite songs: Ohhhhh…. the grand old duke of york (he loves the up and down motions), 5 little ducks (though I usually start with 3 because I can’t be bothered going on and on about those ducks).

Favourite toys: Remotes (he has his own remote but he just assumes ANY remote is his. TV, aircon, etc.), the play table (thanks Priscilla!), stacker cups in the bath (he just pours water out of the bath), any musical toys that make music, my laptop and phone.

Image

Funny/cute things he has done (and sometimes still does):

– He likes to explore in the oddest of places. One day he went into our bedroom and disappeared – and then I found him under the bed! Other places he has decided to play in include inside a glass display case and on top of a box of oranges (like literally lying on the oranges).

– He always makes me feel bad for using the computer because he comes up behind the computer and peekaboo’s me from the side and front of the computer. So I just put it away and play with him. Sneaky!

– He knows how to run – in the air! When we lift him up and he’s excited, he’ll run in the air (while flailing his arms and squawking).

– He makes the funniest sounds ever. Yes, the normal bababa and gagaga but he also hisses at us sometimes, or makes rasping sounds. He blows raspberries, snorts, grunts, squawks, screeches and simply guffaws with laughter at the randomest things.

– In general, he’s just really random. He just comes up to me and suddenly slaps me on the face. He can be eating a piece of banana and then suddenly he’ll make some really quick hand movements to squish the banana and it flies everywhere. He’s happy, then upset, then curious, then loving. So random, but I love him all the time.

This is a record – posting this on the same day that I started writing! It’s about 9.00pm here now, and it’s also Game of Thrones time. I love Mondays! ❤

Travel bug…

I’ve been busy with my parents, who have just left Adelaide for home sweet home.

ImageIt was wonderful for them to be here to share in Jacob’s upbringing. They watched him go from rocking back and forth to crawling and climbing up onto things. They watched him eating lots on good days and throwing food on the floor on not so good days. They witnessed him go from super friendly baby to slightly wary baby, as he just developed his stranger anxiety. But most of all, they just got to build a bond with him and I’m sure he’ll love to see them again when we head to Malaysia later in the year.

I’ve had the travel bug lately and have been dying to seek out another destination to travel to. I have actually been to quite a few places, but perhaps the more I travel, the more I feel like travelling! Anyway, here are 5 awesome places I’ve been to in the last few years (and would LOVE to go back to).

Image
Auckland, NZ (and surrounds- Rotorua, etc)
I admit Auckland isn’t the most interesting place, but I definitely want to go back to New Zealand to explore the great outdoors.

ImageJakarta, Indonesia
My dad used to work here so we used to visit him here.

Image
The Gold Coast, Australia
I loved the theme parks in Gold Coast, but will only go back when Jacob is old enough to enjoy them.

Image
Cairns, Australia
(and surrounds – Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation, Chillagoe, Innisfail, Great Barrier Reef, etc.)
I worked here and also went on some awesome road trips. Love this region!

Image
Phuket, Thailand
We went there for our honeymoon and it was awesome. Enough said!

Which of the following places do you like the best?

And finally, I won something – or really, Jacob won something. Remember the competition I posted about last week?

ImageYippie, we got a runner up prize! I’ll find out exactly what I win on Tuesday. Thanks again to Avalon City Imaging Photography!

A quarter way through…

I woke up today and thought, ahh – April Fools’ Day! I can try to play some tricks on people – until, of course, I remembered that March has 31 days!

How quickly has this year gone? It’s already a quarter way through! In this time, the following has happened:
– We did our first road trip with Jacob to Melbourne
– Attended 3 baby showers, 2 of which I helped host
– Dressed Jacob up in a Chinese fashion for Chinese New Year
– Our house floor has had a full refurbishment, from carpet/lino to tiles
– Survived a week with Jacob when Daniel was away at school camp
– Had Jacob’s baby dedication
– Had a getaway to Port Elliot (with my parents)
– Had my parents come over (and it’s nearly time for them to go home)

But what’s really been amazing is seeing the change in Jacob – three months ago, he could barely roll over and now he’s all over the place, climbing up and trying to walk now. Before, breastmilk was all he wanted but now he’d happy have a teething rusk, strawberries in a net or some veggie puree. One thing I know – he grows cuter every day and I love him to bits!

When my next blog post will be all depends on whether I’ll be able to finish my magazine articles in time for submission. I will work hard and try to post something towards the end of the week, but I don’t want to give false hope (as I have a long way to go, haha!). But I’ll just make this a bit of a photo post:

ImageSomebody likes going shopping. 🙂

Image

He’s too eager to get into his bath… he love bubbles.

ImageI can sit up and I’m doing Thriller in the garden!

ImageI’m showing off just because I can…

ImageYou need to tidy up this change table, mummy…

Image

I want to have big feet like daddy!

I’ll end with just another quick reminder about the competition I entered Jacob into – it’s ending Friday and I’d really like to get as many votes as possible. This is the link to it… 🙂
